Classic Barn Design Services

rightie

Our design staff is overseen by President Jeff Davis, who has worked in the timber frame industry for three decades and has designed and/or overseen the design of hundreds of timber frame homes, home additions, commercial buildings, porches, and post and beam barns.

Our design staff includes a Registered Architect and a designer with a Masters Degree in Architecture. Our staff of talented designers is ready to help you build the home of your dreams.

Standard Design Service

When signing a Design Deposit Agreement for design and timber frame services, one of our designers will work closely with you and your Project Coordinator to develop a floor plan design that meet your needs, budget, lifestyle, land and timber frame layout within the framework of your chosen model. Floor plans and elevations are created based on your revisions to window and door locations and floor plan changes. The timber frame house plan must remain the same as in the model in order to be considered a Classic Barn Homes model. If you would like to modify the timber design, the reduced price and quicker timelines may not apply. Cross sections, details, and a foundation plan will also be created for you to give to builders, engineers, and to submit for permits (not included are complete architectural services such as HVAC and electrical layout). You can choose one of these models as it is designed for a less expensive option rather than developing a custom home design. Please visit our models in our floor plans of Classic Barn Homes. If you would like to design your own home and create a custom floor plan, please see www.davisframe.com.

Green Building

How does timber framing qualify as Green Building? We can provide timbers from a managed sustainable forest, from salvaged forest (dead standing timbers), from reclaimed timbers taken out of old factories and warehouses, or we can provide timbers cut and milled locally. We live in an age where increasing fuel prices for heating and cooling necessitates energy efficient design. We cover the timber frame with a continuous thermal barrier provided by the structural insulated panel system that provides R-values up to R-40. Classic Barn Homes is meeting the "green" needs of consumers by designing homes with energy-efficient, low-maintenance building materials.

Our in house design team has a wealth of knowledge in Green Building Design, which fits in perfectly with our company's goal of providing energy efficient homes. We can help your home or commercial building design meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Energy Star standards.

Engineering

Timber frames have been pre-engineered but need to be reviewed for your individual state and local building codes. An engineer, if required, is typically hired directly by the client. We work closely with a network of engineers who are licensed and are familiar with your local area. We can offer engineering review with a NH or VT stamp from one of our affiliates. Please let us know if your structure will need engineering certification.

Site Planning

Site Planning is important to design for the surrounding view, orientation to the sun, view from the road, and topography. Once you have started the design process with Davis Frame Company, depending on the situation, we can arrange a site visit from one of our design or construction professionals to view your building lot in order to make a recommendation for design or building site location.
